One of the best days of your life will seem to pass in a flash and when you look back over the many years of happiness to come, it’s right that you should want an album, or recording, of the event.
Remember that you don’t have a second chance to get the wedding photography right. Let the wedding planner help you choose someone who will get it right first time; it’s no use arguing later when photographs either never appear, or come back ruined from an inexpert photographer.
A wedding planner will be able to point you in the right direction as to who to use, their price and examples of their previous work.
In a way, it’s even more important to have good photography and videography when planning weddings abroad, as the event is so special and something which cannot be replicated back in the U.K.
Cyprus weddings are blessed with amazing sceneries and there are lots of good photographers who understand the importance of how important the wedding shots are. When the wedding coordinator provides a list of suitable photographers, you also need to think about the type of shot you want. Okay, it is always a good idea to have the traditional album, as grannies and aunties will want to pick through those at their leisure.
But you might also want some shots which add a little more to the ceremony. You could always instruct the photographer to take some informal shots of your guests enjoying themselves, of little moments between you and your partner, or at key times around the day. This will add a bit more to the cost, but think how much fun it would be have to have some shots that were less formal.
Now, photography these days is digital and this has a number of benefits, not least that the photographer should not forget to load the camera with film. But it also allows you to create a montage of shots that can be emailed around the world in seconds, so that those that could not attend can see the shots very quickly.
As to whether you want a video of the ceremony, that comes down to personal choice. Some bridal parties, and indeed some guests, find the filming of the ceremony can be intrusive and fraught with logistics problems. It is though a great way of viewing events with a fresh eye years later, when the album might have paled somewhat. And again, it can be emailed to those people who were unable to attend the ceremony.
Photography; get it right and it will last for years; get it wrong and it will be a long-lived disappointment.
